Ah. Christmas time. Mistletoe and wine. Madmen singing lunatic rhyme. Ho, ho… oh, God, no. Like waiting by the chimney for Santa Claus only to find Papa Lazarou forcing his head down the flue, a Christmas single from Ten Benson isn’t the cheery mood-stabiliser you need as you stand around a roaring family. Clearly feeling that conventional carols are lacking in excitement, however – too many sleigh bells, not enough mouldering ZZ Top riffs and Texan serial killer chic – 10B have composed a touching and, as always, oddly brilliant tale about coming downstairs on Christmas morning only to find, “the world looked like it had died”. It’s because of the coming of Satan, of course, which seems a pretty convincing theory once you’ve heard their terrifying minced pie cover of ‘Listen The Snow Is Falling’.
