Zoot Woman : You And I

Those of you who peruse glossy fashion magazines will already know that the ’80s is currently in the midst of a catwalk revival. As if legwarmers, shoulder pads and puffball skirts (all worn together, naturally) weren’t traumatic enough the first time. You’d think the last thing we’d need would be a band on familiar terms with Spandau Ballet, yet Zoot Woman make it seem like a virtue thanks to their scary, genuine fascination with The Decade Of Bad Taste. Remember, bassist Stuart Price’s alter ego is the eyelinered, boiler suit-wearing electronica freak Jacques Lu Cont of Les Rythmes Digitales. They were ‘doing’ the ’80s when Vogue was just waking up to John Lennon glasses and bell bottoms. And Zoot Woman do it even better, turning ‘You And I’ into a sparkling electro-pop song of plinky synth proportions. Enough to secure them a fantastic living playing wherever Kate Moss is hanging out this week, at least.
