If Wales is the new Camden, then may I nominate Iceland as the new Wales, minus the flag-waving and persecution complex? As the polar icecaps slowly melt, tectonic plates shudder under the frozen soil and volcanoes threaten to cover Reykjavik (or I think I heard rumours to that effect) so the music of Iceland gets more marvellously deranged and unique.
‘Something New’ sounds like a pop song based on a whole different musical scale than that used in the rest of rock’n’roll, twisting around a warped little guitar motif then exploding into a big metallic beast of a thing. Meanwhile, I hear Iceland are almost as good as Wales at footie these days too.
