'Monkey Girl' sounds like a Zeitgeist-dodging mix of Roxette and Jesus Jones.
The story so far: three sad porn-junkies from Glasgow plot to smash pop innocence and rock’n’roll snobbery with dirty attitudes and flawless textures. Regency Buck’s brilliant plan falls apart in two ways, however. Plenty of massively successful chart pop (well, the R&B and hip-hop stuff, anyway) is far more radical and rebellious than anything these muppets could dream up. And tragically, the Buck don’t appear to have actually heard any commercial music in the past ten years, given that ‘Monkey Girl’ sounds like a Zeitgeist-dodging mix of Roxette and Jesus Jones. Coming next: a tour supporting not Britney Spears, but Gay Dad. Really, even the Ping Pong Bitches have more of a clue than this.
