Hard-edged, honey-souled indie rock from Liverpool quartet, whose heart most assuredly lies over the ocean. We’re talking a heavy American influence here, and this seven-inch builds on their previous release’s killer [a]Sebadoh[/a]-esque touches. The lead track threads heartbreakingly composed vocals through a choking melody. The B-sides ‘Daffodila’ and ‘Clock Springs’ are gems in their own right, dynamic cocktails of tear-stained tunefulness welded to a plain-speaking lyrical style. If Playhouse were American they’d have a committed cult following over here. They’re not, and they don’t, but let’s see if we can’t change that… (#2.50 to Alans Channel Recordings, PO Box 128, Liverpool, L69 4PH. Make cheques payable to Playhouse).
