Atari Teenage Riot : Too dead for me

A sublime pop chorus isn’t something you’d normally expect from the Ataris, modern music’s answer to the Red Brigades (You know: a bit like the Scouts only with more complex ideological knots. And better violence). Underneath the apocalyptic drill’n’bass electric-sander mating cries and typical Empire haranguing, though, lurks the kind of instant recall chorus that will pebble dash the inside of your cranium for hours afterwards. “Too dead for, too dead for me,” scream Hanin and Nic, the sexxxed-up fin de siecle pan-ethnic Manga answer to Bikini Kill.

Possibly they are imputing some hapless fellow’s lack of boudoir prowess. Alternatively, they could be heroically rejecting rampant capitalism’s cold, papery grasp on all of us, as per usual. Who knows? Who cares? It sounds terrific, at the same time as sounding like the Dead Kennedys in a wind tunnel. With added X chromosomes!!!

Can it get any better? Oh aye. The enhanced CD version also brings with it the video for ‘Revolution Action‘ – banned by MTV for its “violence, mass hysteria, epileptic fits, nudity, and sadistic torturing behaviour”. Translated: it’s a sub-Cronenberg hoot in which some office drones riot because a bit of evil wobbly static jumps out of their screens onto their faces and sends them mad. Yes!
