Oh, the slightly sexist anguish...
In Angst recently, someone wondered when emo bands would write about the war – as likely as an emo-boy meeting a woman who wouldn’t break his noble heart into a million bloodied pieces, surely. But here’s the debut by Desaparecidos, and here’s Conor Oberst singing, “I don’t want to be ashamed to be American,” and reflecting on how cities can be bombed out of existence. That’s Track Two. Track One, reassuringly, is about how fickle girls are, and resembles Oberst’s excellent country band, Bright Eyes, being torn to shreds by tearful [a]Pixies[/a] punks. Oh, the slightly sexist anguish.
