Having lost nearly two guitarists to heroin and circled the world with socks on their cocks, it might surprise the Chili Peppers to find their latest album selling mostly to mums who think Mr Kiedis makes an excellent role model with his side-parting and sensible jumpers.

But the Chilis are elder statesmen now and even if this is one of their finest moments since ‘Give It Away’ thanks to John Frusciante’s funk-scraping and Kiedis harmonising with himself, it can’t help coming across as slightly [I]nyehh[/I].
