Of The Basement we know this – they’re an Irish/Scouse four-piece. They’re signed to [a]Coral[/a]’s label. Their singer, John Mullin, used to get the piss ripped out of him for looking like George Best in the late 60s. A buzz was built around them despite the fact they make music. Now finally, they unleash their debut – a prime slice of jangly mid-60s period [a]Bob Dylan[/a] capped by Mullin’s scratchy, freaky, distinctive voice. Quite what he sings is anybody’s guess, but it sounds mighty. If The Basement can write an album of this stuff, they will sail way beyond all other pretenders. Joyous.
