Gay: the new punk
Everything is gay these days. And don’t get me wrong that’s great, I’ve got loads of gay records which I consider some of my best friends – Elton John’s ‘Are You Ready For Love’, Junior Senior’s ‘Move Your Feet’, Rufus Wainwright’s ‘Want’. But few records this year have been both super queer and super awesome as the Beck-afied funk of Scissor Sisters ‘Laura’, which is like Bran Van 3000’s ‘Drinking In LA’. Only drunker. B-side ‘Tits On The Radio’ is great too and, in the week when Britney basted and bared herself for the lad’s mags, strangely poignant. You’ve seen those pictures of Britney, right? WHATTHEFUCK? It’s like your childhood sweetheart (who’d never let you do anything) has started fucking around the whole town (Um, is there something you’d like to share with the class, Ahmed? – Ed). Someone needs to sit her down, and ideally in the Scissor Sisters Bee Gees-high falsetto tell her straight “You can’t see tits on the radio”.
