Ra Ra Riot

Dying Is Fine

Slightly startling title for a song, given their drummer, John Pike, passed away in tragic circumstances back in June. But let’s doff our metaphorical cap to New York State’s Ra Ra Riot anyway, for this is a band that definitely knows what it’s up to. ‘Dying Is Fine’, you see, flits along with an almost weightless grace, with six minutes of tumbling drums, artfully wrought cello and just-winsome-enough vocals – think Neil Hannon [Who he? – 21st Century Ed], dressed as a vicar, making a mildly jocular song-and-dance out of someone’s last rites. It’s so effortless in design, its toes barely touch the ground.
