The Bees

Listening Man

White men trying to do reggae? Dodgy ground… for every Clash there’s at least five Jamie Ts. But if anyone knows how to appropriate a genre and turn it into something wonderful and – gasp – original, it’s The Bees. Having plundered numerous ’60s back catalogues on their first two records, ‘Listening Man’, taken from ace third album ‘Octopus’, sees them up sticks and relocate to Trenchtown. The result sounds like Marley with Roy Orbison on backing vocals – a very, very good thing, we think you’ll agree.
