Check Out Blossoms’ Trippy, Sci-Fi Influenced Video For ‘Getaway’ – An NME Premiere

The past 12 months have been a huge year for Stockport five-piece Blossoms, whose dazzling indie rock has seen them supporting bands including The Libertines and The Courteeners and got them shortlisted for the BBC Sound of 2016 poll, where they came fourth. They’ve just released their second single of 2016, ‘Getaway’, and frontman Tom Ogden recently told NME, “We just want to be as big as we can. We don’t wanna be underground. We wanna become a big band.”

“Every 10 years Manchester produces a great band,” he added, “and maybe it’s time there’s another one.” They’ve got their sights set high with their debut album, due this summer, after their latest EP ‘At Most A Kiss’ hit Number One in the iTunes chart and the vinyl chart. This latest video is a different kind of statement, though. It’s directed by James Slater, who’s worked with Jamie T, Stealing Sheep and even Major Lazer. The video is a throwback to the cheesy sci-fi of the ‘70s as we see the band perform under red and blue lights, spliced with a freaky tale of what appears to be an alien trying to return to their home planet. There’s dizzying camera work and some positively trippy visuals – all of which are soundtracked perfectly by the soothing and uplifting tones of ‘Getaway’.
