Let’s talk about drums. Toms both hi and bass rattle against each other like they’ve been captured in a sack and tied to a runaway train, while taut skins burp nonstop under a flash flood of cymbals on one of the best drum tracks we’ve heard this year. It’s an awesome noise, but the best part is that they come just short of distracting you from the glorious ditty they underpin. It’s a story told in only the way the Saddle Creek twosome can, at once meadering and abrupt, and when Adam Stephens coos “Oh Miss Meri don’t despair/We got ways to numb your pain”, you know he speaks the truth.
