U2 : Elevation (Tomb Raider Mix)

Worse records, it's painful to admit, are being released this week.

More breathless, hyper-now nonsense from the Lara Croft movie. After the recent attempts to recapture their stolid '80s pomp, 'Elevation' sees U2 re-entering tentative negotiations with the zeitgeist. Techno beats clank furtively. Guitars soar in wholly obvious and proper fashion. Bono does that whooping thing that's meant to signify rock'n'roll abandon. The CD sleeve folds out into an entirely useless poster of his Flyness giving it some in the middle of a street. And worse records, it's painful to admit, are being released this week.
