Underworld
Cowgirl (JBO)
Incredible how much more cerebral Underworld now seem since Darren
Emerson's departure. While he milks the international progressive techno DJ
circuit for every penny/peseta/yen/cent available, Karl Hyde and Rick
Smith can spend their pensions on exciting new technology and the development
of pretty graphics.
'Cowgirl', of course, one of The Classics from
back in the day when the three used to parade around Romford in black leather
trenchcoats, is repackaged here as a brief live edit and benefits negligibly from
the inclusion of John 'Bedrock' Digweed's join-the-dots trance mix
and Futureshock's swirling tech-house interpretation. "Everything,
everything/I'm invisible, I'm invisible/An eraser of love, an eraser of
love", sings Hyde, another fine example of why words and rave don't
necessarily work together.
