6 / 10 This Tupelo, Mississippi singer-songwriter may only just be making his debut, but he doesn’t give the impression of being green – opening track ‘The Ballad Of The Pajama Kid’ sounds like a grizzled blues band playing ‘Knocking On Heaven’s Door’. The spirit of America runs through these tracks like a dusty railroad track, as slide guitars weep, fuzzed-up solos squeal and Murry issues vocals in Marlboro-ravaged tones. Better tracks, like ‘Southern Sky’, add fuzzed-up guitar to the mix too. It’s a well-crafted debut from a worthy new artist, but it’s competent rather than compelling.
