The Night VI - 'Still Thinking Of You'
The songs are a slick mix of melody and melancholy, and Rose-Harper knows the power of romantic intrigue
6 / 10
The Night VI may sound like a dodgy horror sequel, but it’s actually an Anglo-French six-piece fronted by Sophie Rose-Harper, whose voice is as wholesome as her name. ‘Thinking Of You’ has a guitar intro reminiscent of The xx, and the folky ‘Mother’ seems influenced by Laura Marling, but more often this debut EP brings to mind Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks-era Fleetwood Mac: the songs are a slick mix of melody and melancholy, and Rose-Harper knows the power of romantic intrigue. On ‘Trouble’, she reels us in with the tantalising couplet: “How can I love you? You know where I’ve been”.
