Gilles Peterson presents a guide to Brazilian music

Brasil Bam Bam Bam: The Story Of Sonzeira - film review

8 / 10 Indulging his passion for Brazilian music in the film that accompanies his new album ‘Sonzeira: Brasil Bam Bam Bam', Gilles Peterson shines a light on bossa nova, samba, baile funk and more. The DJ roams Rio De Janeiro, diving from beach and street to favela and studio; the titular Sonzeira is the name he gives to the Brazilian musicians he assembled to record a guide to the music. As a subplot, he goes on the hunt for 'Tam… Tam… Tam…!', a super-rare LP by José Prates. At just over an hour long the film only scratches the surface, but Peterson is a likeable presence, and the music is sublime.
