Furry Selection

Various Artists

8 / 10 As one of the UK’s biggest stoner bands, Super Furry Animals were probably like kids in a sweet shop when they were asked to make this reggae compilation. Quiet-but-affable bass player Guto Pryce rummaged through legendary reggae label Trojan’s back catalogue to select his own highlights. To be honest, given the quality of the imprint’s output, being handed a task like this is like shooting fish in a barrel. But Pryce’s selection doesn’t disappoint, featuring classics like Horace Andy’s sweet ’70s skank ‘Skylarking’, The Upsetters’ rumbling ‘23rd Dub’ and Rupie Edwards’ unambiguous herbal homage ‘Free The Weed’. Even if you’re not a fan of SFA, you’ll find nothing fuzzy about their logic here.
