Hot Chip DJ-Kicks

Various Artists

7 / 10 The Chippy ones aren’t the first to take on the DJ-Kicks series. It’s one that’s run longer than EastEnders, it seems – well, 12 years to be exact – but Hot Chip have certainly pulled off one of the best. With their slightly askew take on electronic dance pop as its starting point, the Chip then take you by the hand and wander off like a boozy reveller, bumping into a vast cast of characters as you go. You’ll encounter the bassquaking sound of juvenile US rapper Young Leek, the long lost UK garage of Wookie, mint-fresh techy electronica from Marek Bois and even Hot Chip themselves on an exclusive version of ‘My Piano’. There’s some classic touches too – Joe Jackson, New Order and Ray Charles are all present – but even they have something in common. You’ll dance. Stephen Worthy
