They’ve been put in a pigeonhole for as long as anyone can remember – and with good reason. The latest incarnation of these Californian black-clad shaman are still embracing the tag of ‘the (nearly) new Velvet Underground’. And judging by the dreary avant-garde gloom rock here, it’s a comparison as flattering as ‘a shitty Kinks’ is to The Kooks.
