Bessie Smith -A hot time in the Old Town Tonight video

This track was recorded circa 1927 when Bessie was singing with Fletcher Henderson in New York. She is accompanied by some members of his orchestra on this recording session, including Joe Smith cor. Buster Bailey clt. and Jim Harrison tmb. This is a rendition of one of the 'bread and butter' numbers that the band performed for the mass audiences of the day; but just listen to the way Bessie puts her mark on it! The photograph was taken in 1936, before her fatal traffic accident in 1937.
