The Moon Riders - Jub Up Family (music video)

The Moon Riders' "Nouvelles Vagues" came out in late 1978. Devo's "Are We Not Men?" had come out only months before. Clearly, there was a back channel of robot-nerd-rock communication going on. You will never hear the oft-used phrase "Funky papa, crazy mama, macho baby, jub jub jub up!" without thinking of this song from this point on...I guarantee it! "Jub Up Family" is one of the few circulating music videos from the Moon Riders' 1970s Crown output, and is an absolute gem of confusing weirdness. Keiichi, Hirofumi, Tohru, Ryomei, Tetsuroh, and Masahiro might've gotten musically weirder, but this is perhaps the apex of the band's visual deconstructionist style. And as an added bonus: how often do you get to see singing washing machines in a field?
