Vittoria, mio core (02:31)
The VU-Kamerkoor has been singing more of Arvo Pärt's choral pieces, such as his Magnificat. For our recent concert, we picked an unusual piece, a setting of a prose text being the biography of Saint Ambrosius, the author of the famous 'Te Deum Laudamus' text. The reader will find text and translation on Arvo Part's website here: http://www.arvopart.org/composition_text.php?id=48 This piece is unusually rhythmical, but has the now well-known time shifts, 'open dissonants' and long vocal chords for which Arvo's music is loved world-wide. This is music for music's sake; the reference to Saint Ambrosius is there to charge the music with spiritual meaning, but the biography text in pose is in itself just a means, not an end. Let the music resound.
