Releases by Foals and The Black Keys also announced
The White Stripes will release a special 10th anniversary re-issue of their album ‘Elephant’ for Record Store Day.
With singer Jack White the official ambassador for Record Store Day 2013, his label Third Man Records have confirmed that a limited edition double version of the LP will be released on vinyl on April 20. They also stated that the album will be released on black vinyl “later this year”, but the exclusive Record Store Day release will see the first side of the LP on split-colour black and red vinyl, while the second side is coloured all white.
Third Man have also confirmed that the release will include “an MP3 download card, printed inner sleeves and is mastered direct from the original analog source”, and will be “house in a double pocket gatefold”.
According to Pitchfork, meanwhile, Warner Bros have also announced a slew of Record Store Day releases. The Black Keys will release a 7″ featuring their cover of The Stooges’ 1969 track ‘No Fun’ with the original song included on the B-side, while Foals’ new album ‘Holy Fire’ will be released on vinyl along with a 7″ containing ‘Bluebird’ and a Friendly Fires remix of their track ‘My Number’. Other releases will include vinyl from The Flaming Lips, Iron & Wine and Tegan And Sarah.
A host of other artists will be putting out special releases in order to celebrate this year’s Record Store Day, which takes place on April 20. Speaking about his role as ambassador, White said in a statement: “We need to reeducate ourselves about human interaction and the difference between downloading a track on a computer and talking to other people in person and getting turned onto music that you can hold in your hands and share with others.”
