‘Stranger Things’ season 2 spoilers unlikely as creators keep plot secret

Hit Netflix show to return in 2017

Stranger Things director Shawn Levy has said that he is keeping tight-lipped about the plot for Stranger Things 2, due for release next year.

The news may come as a disappointment for fans desperate to know what happens next in the hit Netflix series, which centres on a town’s mysterious experiences with an alternative universe – the ‘Upside Down’.

But Levy is determined to keep the details of the highly anticipated second season secret, to preserve the ‘mystery’ the show is known for. In an interview with Screen Rant, he was asked whether he could offer any updates on season two of the show, which is currently in development. However, all he would say is that he doesn’t want to share any details for fear of spoiling things for fans.

Levy said: “All I’m going to tell you about season two… Look, as much as people are dying to know what happened, I think the reason Stranger Things has become the phenomenon it has is because no one knew what was coming. I think there’s this delicious torture in not knowing.”

Since the show’s second season entered production at the beginning of the month, Netflix has shared a number of glances into the series’ second season, announcing that Millie Bobby Brown would be reprising her role as Eleven and the addition of five new actors to the cast (including The Goonies’ Sean Astin). Stranger Things actor Charlie Heaton, who plays the show’s Jonathan Byers, was then quoted as describing the second season as “darker” and “bigger” than the first.

A teaser video recently revealed the second season’s nine episode titles, release year, and a clue that the series will be set in the fall of 1984 – a full year after we left off at the end of season one.

While Levy kept quiet on the show’s plot, he did say that he believes season two is coming together well, and that fans who loved the mystery of season one will eventually thank him for not letting too much slip for this new season either.

He went on: “What I will say is, having heard the first half of the season at our table read at the end of last week, that I’m very excited even as I’m trying to tune out a lot of the news of the culture and just focus on our instincts, our actors, or… directorial instincts that brought us to this table. We want to follow the same guidelines we were following last year when we made this show that no one knew about and no one cared about. But I will say we have some very interesting ideas cooking for season two.”
