Netflix changes synopsis to ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ after complaints from fans

Fans jumped to Thanos' defence

Netflix has changed the synopsis of the movie Avengers: Infinity War after many fans and viewers took issue with their description of the character Thanos.

Although not available in the UK, the hit Marvel movie and highest-grossing film of 2018 has arrived on Netflix in the US. The synopsis of Infinity War by Netflix originally read: “Superheroes amass to stop intergalactic sociopath Thanos from acquiring a full set of Infinity Stones and wiping out half of all life in the universe.”

The Oxford Dictionary defines a ‘sociopath’ as “a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behaviour”, however many fans took issue with this description of Thanos – arguing that as the plot develops, he doesn’t show the same levels of selfishness, cruelty and a lack of conscience that often come associated with the term.

Now, as Screen Rant reports, Netflix have responded to viewers by altering the film’s listing description.

Now, the synopsis reads: “Invader. Annihilator. So-called savior. As Thanos moves closer to omnipotence, the fate of the universe rests with the Avengers.”

Meanwhile, fans are now eagerly awaiting the sequel, Avengers: Endgame, which is due for release in April.

Last week saw fans spread the theory that the character Wolverine may be likely to make an appearance in the latest instalment of the franchise.
