Kanye West reportedly pulled out of Coachella because they wouldn’t build him a huge dome stage

It's been claimed the rapper was in talks to headline the California festival before stage disagreements arose

Kanye West reportedly pulled out of headlining Coachella because the festival wouldn’t build him a giant dome to perform on, Billboard has reported.

It was reported earlier this month that the rapper pulled out due to disagreements in staging, but Billboard has now reported further details of the fallout.

The site claim that two days before festival promoter Paul Tollett was set to announce the Kanye West as a headliner, the rapper asked for a new stage in the shape of a giant dome to be built for him in the middle of the festival site.

It’s claimed the dome would have been designed by John McGuire, one of West’s collaborators.

Coachella organisers Goldenvoice explained to the rapper that four months would not be enough time to construct the stage as it would require the promoter to rearrange the whole festival site and remove a large section of toilets. It’s reported that West reacted by saying he is an artist with a creative vision and shouldn’t need to be discussing port-a-potties.

It’s claimed that co-founder Paul Tollett was in talks to secure Ariana Grande as West’s replacement by the end of the day and the singer was announced as a headliner alongside Tame Impala and Childish Gambino on January 3rd.

Kanye West is yet to comment on the claims.

The 1975, Solange, Khalid, Janelle Monae and Chvrches are also set to take to stages across Coachella’s site this year.

West last headlined the event in 2011.

The sell-out festival will take place over two weekends, 12-14 April and 19-21 April 2019. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the event and tickets sold out in six hours.

Last year’s headliners were Beyonce, Eminem and The Weeknd, while the festival also saw performances from St Vincent, Haim and Cardi B.
