Is The Weeknd’s new single a Drake diss track?

The lyrics to 'Lost In The Fire' certainly sound snarky over Drake's baby.

The Weeknd has been accused of making a diss track against Drake in the shape of his new single ‘Lost In The Fire’.

A collaboration with French musician Gesaffelstein, ‘Lost In The Fire’ was released on Friday (January 11). Since then, fans have been speculating that one of the verses is a thinly-veiled attack on Drake’s young son.

The Weeknd sings: “I just want a baby with the right one/’Cause I would never be the one to hide one.”

The lyrics appear to be a reference to Drake’s son with former adult movie actress Sophie Brussaux. Following the child’s birth in October 2017, it wasn’t until the song ‘March 14’ on his album ‘Scorpion’ last June, eight months later, that Drake acknowledged he was the father.

Since the acknowledgement, Drake has apparently made more effort to be involved in the child’s life. The boy hasn’t officially been named, but is believed to be called Adonis – a name revealed by Pusha T in his own Drake diss track, ‘The Story Of Adidon’ last May.

In ‘March 14’, Drake rapped: “She not my lover like Billie Jean, but the kid is mine/Sandi used to tell me all it takes is one time/And all it took was one time/Shit, we only met two times, two times.” Sandi is Drake’s mother, Sandi Graham.

Drake was an early champion of The Weeknd, who acknowledged his debt to his mentor in an interview in 2015. He told Rolling Stone: “I will always be thankful. If it wasn’t for the light he shined on me, who knows where I’d be.”

However, The Weeknd said in the same interview also said he gave up his album for Drake, which he found “hard”. He added that it was Drake’s manager Oliver El-Khatib who was the real champion of The Weeknd’s music at first, saying: “Drake wasn’t even fucking with my music at first, Oliver was the one vouching for me.”
