Last night’s 2019 GRAMMY Awards annual ‘In Memoriam’ segment has attracted criticism for failing to include a number of names.
Paying tribute to those within the music industry who have died over the course of the last year, the ceremony honoured Aretha Franklin, Mac Miller, Avicii, Roy Clark, Lynard Skynard guitarist Ed King and rapper Jimmy Wopo among others.
However, another of notable names were left out of the televised tribute including Buzzcocks’ Pete Shelley, Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison, Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott, Pegi Young, Richard Swift, and Anticon co-founder Alias. While the video memoriam during the ceremony didn’t include a number of the aforementioned names, they were featured on The Grammys website.
XXXTentacion was also left out of the televised tribute, but Variety reports that this was done intentionally due to the domestic violence charges and other controversies he faced prior to his death.
Since his death, Avicii‘s parents have launched a new digital memorial to the late DJ and have asked fans to share their memories of him.
Last year, Biffy Clyro, The Twilight Sad and others joined members of Frightened Rabbit for a special tribute gig to Scott Hutchison. His brother Grant has since set up the Scott Hutchison Foundation in his memory.
