Sonic The Hedgehog fans aren’t too pleased after a leaked image appeared to provide the first look at the iconic character in an upcoming live-action movie.
The video game favourite will grace the big screen in November 2019, with his voice provided by Parks & Recreation‘s Ben Schwartz.
However, it seems that he’s got some way to go before fans are entirely on board.
An apparent leaked image of the character has caused uproar, after fans noticed that his new look isn’t in keeping with the video game original.
For starters, it appears that his signature wide eyes have been replaced by some tiny dots. Other fans called out his considerably lengthened torso and unreasonably long legs.
Posting on Twitter, one wrote: “They made Sonic the Hedgehog look like the mascot for a disease in a pharmaceutical ad.”
Another bluntly added: “Seeing Sonic the Hedgehog’s film look makes me want to run screaming back to Nintendo land. Give me an army of 100 vicious Pikmin beating giant bugs to death any day over that. Far less terrifying.

But amid the criticism, the final word must of course go to original Sonic creator Yuji Naka. Nope, he’s not impressed either.
“Is this a Sonic movie?” he asked in one tweet.
このソニックの全身ビジュアル見ると頭身とお腹の丸さって大事な気がします。もう少しバランス取れなかったのでしょうかねえ https://t.co/6RpIEsYa12

He added: I feel that it is important to look at the whole body visual of Sonic and head body and stomach. Did you not get a little more balance?”
Ouch. All this, of course, comes after fans had a bit of fun with an early Sonic poster from last year – which showed his freakishly long legs for the first time.
