Blossoms have “two-album’s worth of songs” for a record they want to release this year

The Stockport band also want Mark Ronson to produce their next effort

Blossoms frontman Tom Ogden has revealed the Stockport band have “two album’s worth” of songs demoed and are hoping to release an album this year.

Speaking to Radio X at the Global Awards, the frontman also revealed that the band would love Mark Ronson to produce their next output.

When asked when their follow up to 2018’s ‘Cool Like You’ would appear, Ogden said: “Hopefully this year. We’ve written and demoed two album’s-worth of songs, so if we don’t get anything out, we’re lazy.

“It’s getting to Mark Ronson’s ear tonight. Why not? We need a producer!”

The band’s keyboardist Myles Kellock then joked he would get out his phone to play the tracks to Ronson should he bump into the producer during the awards show.

Speaking to NME recently about the new material in the works, Ogden said it was hard to give an idea about what the new stuff sounded like.

He added: “It’s hard to say really. It’s early days so I don’t want to say too much, but there are more guitars on it. On the second album we went down more of a synth route. This time I went back to writing on the guitar and songs just started falling out of me.

“I’ll always write about myself as all songwriters do, but I’ve been trying to force myself into corners that I wouldn’t normally go into through story-telling.”

The Stockport five-piece released their second album, ‘Cool Like You’, in April last year. In a four-star review, NME said the record “waggles two fingers at the notion of a ‘difficult second album.’”

In October, the band previewed a new tune ‘I’ve Seen The Future’ during a show in Paris, while they also recently covered The Killers’ ‘The Man’.

After a huge UK tour in December in support of their second output, Blossoms have announced a string of festival shows this summer. They’ll be stopping by Community Festival in London in support of headliners The Kooks, as well as playing at Reading and Leeds.

Blossoms are to play a huge homecoming show in Stockport’s Edgeley Park this June.

Speaking about the Edgeley Park show to NME, Ogden said: “It means so much to us. It’s a stadium show in the middle of our hometown and no one has ever done a gig there before. There are rows and rows of terraced houses around the ground and to be there means the world.

“It will be a real moment and definitely the biggest and best thing we’ve ever done. Oasis had Maine Road, Arctic Monkeys did Don Valley in Sheffield. You want that all day event where you go down in the afternoon, the sun’s blazing and you’ve got five bands on for a mini festival. That’s the vibe we wanted to create in the middle of Stockport. That’s never happened before.”
