It's the California musician's first new material since 2017
Banks has shared her brand new single ‘Gimme’ – listen to the hypnotic track below.
The song is the first bit of new solo material to be released by Banks since the arrival of her 2017 non-album single ‘Underdog’. The Californian’s last album, ‘The Altar‘, was released in September 2016 and followed on from her 2014 debut LP ‘Goddess’.
Announcing her comeback today (April 29) with ‘Gimme’, Banks said that the track, which was co-written with Buddy Ross and co-produced by Hudson Mohawke and BJ Burton, is “about getting what you want.”
“It’s about knowing what you deserve, saying it out loud, and demanding it with no apologies,” she said. “I’m ready to release this into the world and begin a new chapter.” You can hear ‘Gimme’ below.
A full album is expected in 2019, with Banks telling Marie Claire Italia late last year that she’d recorded 45 songs for her next project.
Late last year, Banks’ collaboration with 6Lack, titled ‘In Between’, was released to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the latter’s 2016 debut album ‘Free 6lack’.
6lack, meanwhile, was recently added to the bill for Sziget Festival 2019. Joining the line-up alongside Macklemore and Michael Kiwanuka, the three artists will all play at the Hungarian “community-built” festival, which is held on Óbuda Island in the capital Budapest.
