Hertford-born singer-songwriter George Ezra moved to Bristol in 2011 and it was there he began making a name for himself at local venues. The 21-year-old musician made his breakthrough to the wider consciousness in November 2013 with his single ‘Budapest’. The track followed Ezra’s (whose full name is George Ezra Barnett) debut EP ‘Did You Hear The Rain?’, released on the Columbia label, and went to Number Three in the Official Singles Chart.
The singer-songwriter was named in a host of tip lists at the beginning of 2014, featuring in the longlist of the BBC Sound Of… poll. He would eventually end in fifth place in the list. Since receiving mainstream attention, Ezra has supported artists similar to him such as Tom Odell and Lianne La Havas while he has stated that musicians like Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie have influenced his folk-pop sounds. The solo artist’s debut album, ‘Wanted On Voyage’, was released on June 30 2014 and was produced by Cam Blackwood (London Grammer, Florence + The Machine, Darlia). The record initially went to Number Three in the Official Albums Chart but later went on to peak at Number One, three months after release.
