1981

The Jam and Paul Weller ruled. Again. But this time they picked up six awards as opposed to 80’s 10. David Bowie, Altered Images and Siouxsie Sioux also picked up awards. Meanwhile Echo & The Bunnymen nabbed LP of the year with ‘Heaven Up Here’ and The Specials won Best Single with ‘Ghost Town’.
Our man Phil McNeill said: “The Jam have now equalled Led Zeppelin’s mid-70’s record of topping the groups three times in a row…if anyone is going to take The Jam’s crown next year, chances are it’ll be…Echo And The Bunnymen.”
