You might’ve seen quite a few people today on ‘the timeline’ getting very excited about The 1975. ICYMI, Matty Healy and co. released their third album ‘A Brief Enquiry Into Online Relationships’ at the stroke of midnight, and loads of fans of the band have been staying up all night and eagerly gobbling it up at the first opportunity. Fast-forward onto more sociable waking hours, and it’s easily the most discussed new release of the day.
Already spawning brand new memes, everyone’s giving it a whirl, and the album is being heaped with high praise and bitter disappointment alike. Whatever you think of ‘A Brief Enquiry Into Online Relationships’ there’s certainly a lot to unpick here (it features a spoken word track from Siri and a foray into straight up lounge jazz, umm, hello?)
This is a brief enquiry into what everyone’s saying about it…
As you’d imagine, there’s a lot of love out there…
the 1975 finally released a new album which means that the balance in the universe has officially been restored

done listening to the album and to sum up, my soul is so blessed (not literally) by the 1975 music like, it brings me back to the 80's era. sincerity is scary, mine, and i couldn't be more in love is a fucking jazz. such a genius.

Some are on the fence
Despite my passionate dislike for The 1975 & the fact that Matty thinks he’s Bon Iver now, they actually managed to put out a half decent pop record. But, I dont think its even close to worthy of the critic hype or p4ks BNM, and NME labelling it as a millennial Ok Computer?? umm
— eleni (@lenny_lats) November 30, 2018
i’m sorry but it is illegal to say this is the best album of the year when the man who married a robot is an actual song that exists on the album
— kylee (@PIZZANDFRlES) November 30, 2018
Actually like a few tracks from the 1975 new album. That being said they are still incredibly overated in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong they’re not a bad band, just not one of the best.

And others just can’t stand the thing
A visual representation of the new The 1975 album! Too much snyth, not relying on strong vocals enough and trying to sound like other bands artists ie Michael Jackson and Oasis! 2/10 utter trash! pic.twitter.com/0bcQ3hvcX2

A few fans have dug up some tidbits about the record
The 1975 have a new album out that is genius and about online life and they read Notes on a Nervous Planet in the studio when they made it which is a fact I love.

Wait so did The 1975 sample the guitar riff from Joy Division's 'Disorder'?

There has been the odd existential crisis along the way, too
sometimes I think about what songs I'll play in the car to my kids and then I realise I probably won't have kids or a car and it's an existential crisis, so welp thanks old generation I guess I'll listen to the new 1975 album alone

The internet has also gifted us with some… more unusual takes
gotta admire the 1975 for starting every single one of their albums with a song about a blowjob

"The 1975" is probably the worst song on the album but these bastards now have 4 songs about getting sucked off in a car so I can accept that at least one had to be bad.

Mostly, fans of The 1975 are enjoying picking over their favourite moments
When Matt Healy said:
There comes a time In a young mans life
He should settle down and find himself a wife
But I’m just fine ‘cause I know you’re mine

The final three songs on @the1975 album (which are perfect) sound like they could’ve been performed by Michael Buble, Michael Bolton, and Michael Hutchence, in that order. This album is wild.

My first reactions: I like America is my new bop, Inside Your Mind hit me right away, I Couldn’t Be More In Love gave me goosebumps and tears, I Always Wanna Die was the perfect ending, and the transition from How To Draw into Petrichor is insane
Love u @the1975— Erin ? (@eyoungpaint) November 30, 2018
