5 Lesser Known Acts You Have To See At Bestival 2011

Bjork, The Cure, PJ Harvey, Village People… we’re getting very excited about the big names playing this year’s Bestival, but there are also a whole load of brilliant new acts on the bill too. Don’t miss this lot when you head to the Isle Of Wight.

Various Cruelties

Where and when: Psychedelic Worm Tent, Friday
Why: When your second gig is at White Heat with The Vaccines – you know you’re going to get the right attention – but their nostalgic, crooning, bass-heavy indie is well worth all the fuss this lot have whipped up.

Where and when: Sailor Jerry’s Ink City, Saturday
Why: The Camden rock fourpiece with their guitar swinging and tuneful vocals are perfect for a festival field. Releasing their first EP titled ‘We Were Children’ last April, and preparing their debut album for next year, catch them live now.

Tall Ships

Where and when: Sailor Jerry’s Ink City, Saturday
Why: The now Brighton based Falmouth math rockers have earned a reputation for jaw-dropping-to-the-floor live shows and frantic instrument swapping among members onstage.

Where and when: Psychedelic Worm Tent, Sunday
Why: The web hating, jam loving (the musical, not the conserve variety), post rock Cardiff setup have wowed audiences throughout the summer. Don’t miss them play at the end of festival season mega-bash that is Bestival.

Where and when: Sailor Jerry’s Ink City, Friday
Why: Tour buddies of Deerhunter, Dum Dum Girls and Crocodiles – the Manchester lo-fi-ers will be bringing their summery, psychedelic tunes to the Isle Of Wight.
