Primal Scream At Glastonbury Festival 2011 – Review

Who: Primal Scream

Where and When: Other Stage, Friday

Vibe: A blizzard of dry ice, Bobby’s silver lamė top and a gospel choir-aided version of ‘Movin’ On Up’ was a sign that the Scream were in the mood for gurning, ‘Screamadelica’ funtimes, playing the whole of that album.

Best bit: ‘Loaded’. It heralded the end of a slow middle section and the beginning of a hit-packed end bit (‘Loaded’, ‘Jailbird’, ‘Rocks’).

Low point: ‘Don’t Fight It, Feel It’. As a backing singer took the mic, the pace slowed down. A real “head to the bar” moment.

Banter: Raring to go at first (“Are you ready to testify?”, “This is for the people who are tripping”), before Bobby G got a lot less coherent.

Verdict: A slightly backloaded set meant that this was a fun show, but not quite the dream ‘Greatest Hits’ it could have been.

Rating: 7/10
