65Daysofstatic, Here We Go Magic, Gogol Bordello, The Cribs – Free MP3 Downloads

This seems to be a week for transformations. As soon as I finished writing about James Yuill’s morphing from folktronic troubadour to lord of the rave, I made a long overdue trip to glitchy post-rockers 65daysofstatic land to hear new album ‘We Were Exploding Anyway’. And found they’re no just longer glitchy post-rockers. Like Fuck Buttons last year they’ve been bitten by the euphoric dance bug, not least on the album’s best track, ‘Tiger Girl’, which is ten minutes of motorik electronic gurgles that builds and builds like FB’s ‘Olympians’. Hear and download it below.

While the LP is powered more by synths more than guitars, they haven’t evolved beyond all recognition. Check the Errors-esque ‘Mountainhead’ or ‘Dance Dance Dance”s unforgiving synth pounding for signs of the 65days of old. All in all, though, a potential career apex?

Get ‘We Were Exploding Anyway’ on Hassle from April 26th. UK tour starts in Leeds on May 1st.

Here We Go Magic, meanwhile, are a psychedelic pop group from New York on Secretly Canadian. They’re getting ready to release their second album ‘Pigeons’ in June and are doing the Great Escape festival alongside a smattering of other dates. If you like sweet harmonies, hypnotic chords and the gentle rocking of a snare then try this for size.
