We sat down with London's riot grrrl influenced singer and rapper Girli for NME’s 90 second interview. Turns out she doesn't rate Lady Gaga's 'Perfect Illusion' and once got start-struck in front of Mark Ronson.
What was your first festival?
My first festival was Reading when I was 16. I went with all my friends and it was awesome.
Favourite song to play live?
Probably at the moment it’s ‘So you think you can fuck with me do ya?’ because at the end we go into the crowd and everyone just goes ballistic.
What job would you have if you weren’t a musician?
I would probably be involved in film. I really like writing and making stuff.
What’s your weirdest fan story?
It’s not weird, it’s really cool. Someone gave me a pair of underwear with my face on it. That was pretty cool.
What’s your favourite song of the year?
‘Pink & White’ by Frank Ocean.
And the least favourite?
‘Perfect Illusion’ by Lady Gaga. I’m just not into it, I’m just not into it.
Do you have any unusual hobbies?
I really like swimming. I think that’s kinda weird because most people wouldn’t think I go swimming and imagine me in a swimming cap, but I love swimming.
Has anyone made you feel starstruck?
I felt pretty starstruck when I met Mark Ronson. That was quite cool. He probably doesn’t even remember meeting me, it was at The Brit Awards, but that was pretty cool.
Most prized possession?
My most prized possession is probably the keys to my flat because if I lost those, I would be fucked.
