There’s been a flurry of activity on the band’s social media accounts in the last few hours, prompting fans to get giddy at the prospect a major announcement is coming very soon. It started with the announcement that the group had finally joined Instagram…

The group appear to be tracing their history. ‘Tomorrow Comes Today’ was the first taste fans had of the project back in November 2000, and in the following posts the group have continued to revisit their history on Twitter and Instagram.
The band have followed it up today with more social media action celebrating their ‘Demon Days’ phase and the final tweet came with the caption; “The gang is back!”

But where will it finish? Gorillaz masterminds Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett have flip-flopped on when the new album will actually arrive. A release date was initially mooted for this year, then Hewlett backtracked saying that 2017 is more likely. We know they’ve been in the studio for a while now – we compiled all the updates around the new album right here – so it wouldn’t be that surprising if they announced that album 5 is indeed finished. But for now, we wait…
