If seeing Star Wars fans go nuts after their very first viewing of The Phantom Menace in 1999 taught us anything it’s that early impressions should be treated with much caution. Heck, the excitement of the franchise’s return even masked the Jar Jar Binks“>sheer annoyance of Jar Jar Binks.
But appetite for the latest installment, Force Awakens, is so high that fans will take any scrap of information on what to expect. When the film premiered in Los Angeles on Monday night, journalists and fans were told to keep tight-lipped over any plot lines or spoilers. Thankfully, some have broken protocol and posted their cryptic verdicts on social media.
Montage Of Heck director Brett Morgen called it the “best blockbuster since the original”, while Mashable writer Josh Lincoln Dickey ranked it as the third best Star Wars film of the franchise. Not bad.
However, journalist Germain Lussier raised some questions by saying that the movie “spoke to my every emotion. Most of them good, a few not”.
Fans will be able to see the film for themselves on Thursday (December 17). Until then, check out the first reactions below.

Not going to say much till I see it again but rest assured THE FORCE AWAKENS is the best STAR WARS since 1983…maybe 1980.

Rest easy: #TheForceAwakens is 100% #StarWars, and something new. Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac: welcome.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is a strong, promising kickoff. As a standalone, I'd rank it #3 in the series.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens spoke to my every emotion. Most of them good, a few not, but overall it was an amazing, overwhelming experience
