Don’t be fooled by the name, Boy 8-Bit doesn’t do 8-Bit. Not anymore. While his Mad Decent classic ‘The Suspense Is Killing Me’ kept the die-hard Amiga amigos happy, the boy’s matured way beyond the Ethan Kath school of thievery.
His new Baltic Pine EP is a work of electronic mastery, four tracks created on computer but a keyhole to a whole world of ideas. It’s as eery and gothic as it is funky and full-on dancefloor ready. Take the title track – a piece of evocative, digital nursery rhyme genius that plods through your subconciouse like the Peer Gynt Suites reinvented for a chiptune age.
Be sure to get the EP – or at least ‘A City Under Seige’. It’s out on This Is Music Records, the people that brought us SMD, A-Trak and Mujava. They’ve got a free mixtape on their site too, with the likes of Blur, Burial, Magnetic Fields and loads more for the price of an email address. Get it here.
