The shortlist in NME‘s search to find Britain’s Best Small Venue in association with Jack Daniel’s JD Roots has been revealed.
Thousands of votes were cast for hundreds of venues across the country, but the list has now been whittled down to just 10 regional winners. Now it is your chance to vote for the overall winner.
And this week, we’re helping you along by profiling the ten shortlisted venues. Here, it’s the turn of Newport Le Pub.
To tell us who you think should be the overall winner of Britain’s Best Small Venue in association with Jack Daniel’s JD Roots, go to NME.com/smallvenues. Voting is open until May 28.
The winner will be announced in the June 8 issue of NME, on sale June 5, alongside a very special gig announcement for the winning venue.
Newport Le Pub – Regional winner – Wales
Location: Caxton place, Newport, NP20 4BN
Manager: Samantha Dabb
Most memorable moment: When Le Pub was in danger of closing last year, local heroes Kids in Glass Houses put on a special benefit show to help save the venue. They were successful, obviously.
Best fact: The venue has a cocktail named after Trevor Nelson which is so popular, they throw it a birthday party every year.
Why does this venue deserve your vote?: For proof of what this venue means to the people of Newport, just look at the success of the campaign to keep it open last year. It’s been to the brink, and come back stronger than ever.
