Christmas songs are a festive minefield. Are you an aficionado who can recite The Pogues classic ‘Fairytale of New York’ even after you’ve slipped into a turkey dinner-induced coma, or a complete novice?
On the one hand, these seasonal songs are as familiar as the jokes in a Christmas cracker. Some will welcome that familiarity; cynics will view it as a chore akin to eating sprouts or listening to their problematic uncle’s views on Brexit.
On the other hand, though, Christmas songs are so ubiquitous at this time of year that a) you’ve either blocked them out like the childhood memory of seeing mommy kissing Santa Claus or b) you’ve been absolutely off your festive mash at some Christmas party or other every time you’ve heard them.
But hey, that is – as they say – all part of life’s rich tapestry (preferably gift-wrapped and from John Lewis). And whichever side of the fence you’re parking your sled on, we want to know: can you complete the lyrics to these Christmas songs?
Let us know how you did. Have you made it onto the sequestered idyll that is Santa’s nice list? No, we know – you’re languishing on the naughty list the bad bugger you are.
