The World’s First Levitating Record Player Is (Almost) Here – And It’s Damn Cool

So you’ve got some of David Bowie’s favourite records, and you’ve got the magical brand new fiver that you can use as a needle – all you need is a snazzy new record player, right?

How about this Mag Lev Audio, then? Its the world’s first levitating turntable. Seriously. Here, why don’t you take a quick look…

The product’s designers have utilised new technology to make it all possible. “By using our innovative and patented technology, we were able to achieve not only magnetic levitation, but we’ve also been able to maintain the incredibly precise turning of the platter with sensor regulating software. Air is the smoothest medium with least amount of friction, which further elevates this project into a truly unique listening experience.”

The magnet levitation isn’t the only cool thing about the turntable either. The player also knows when the record is done and lifts the needle off the record when the side has finished, and the makers claim that this technology helps prolong the life of your record.

One snag: you can’t buy it just yet. As discovered by The Vinyl Factory, the Kickstarter project is still some way off, with the project less than 10% of the way through its $300,000 funding target.

The sleek player comes in three sweet designs, but it’s going to set you back a whopping $780 (£639) for an entry level player. They will chuck in shipping for free, which is nice.
