Julian Casablancas, the hell-raising frontman of NYC rockers The Strokes, reaches the grand old age of 38 today (August 23).
2016 also marked 15 years since the band released their debut album ‘Is This It’. Branded “the best kind of New York story” in NME’s original review, The Strokes’ debut album ‘Is This It‘ is still as adored today as when it was released in 2001.
Ranked the Best Album of the 2000’s by us, and making number four in our 500 Best Albums Of All Time list, ‘Is This It’ introduced us to the songs of Julian Casablancas, Albert Hammond Jr, Nick Valensi, Nikolai Fraiture and Fabrizio Moretti, and they haven’t looked back since.
Four more albums and numerous side projects have come and gone – Valensi announced yesterday the formation of a new band, CRX – but nothing has quite hit the heights of the 11 track ode to the people of New York.
In celebration of the anniversary, NME want to find out how well you know ‘Is This It’, with a track-by-track lyric quiz. Will your Strokes knowledge be ‘Barely Legal’, or will you find your lack of answers ‘Hard To Explain’?
