Just noticed I have a load of tracks to get up today, and they’re all remixes, and it got me thinking, would you want to read a weekly round-up of the best remixes, or prefer if we kept them mixed up with original tracks? Let me know in the comments below…
Charlotte Gainsbourg – ‘Time Of The Assassins (XXXChange Remix)’
XXXchange is a familiar face on the DD blog (pick up the exclusive mix of Yeasayer’s ‘O.N.E.’ we posted in February here) and this time turns his attention to Charlotte Gainsbourg’s whispy clean voice on her forthcoming single ‘Time Of The Assassins’, (out on May 10th). Hypno synths and glitches galore on this one. The Fader site has some nice bits and bobs on XXXchange here. Gainsbourg will be playing her first UK show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on 22nd June and Latitude Festival on 18th July.
Crookers – ‘We Love Animals (The Love Supreme Mix)’
As with all good mixes, this Love Supreme take on ‘We Love Animals’ restructures the DNA of the original, ditching the slow-build intro, ramping up the BPM and getting straight down to business with vocals from the outset and added strings.
These New Puritans – ‘Attack Music (The Count aka Herve’s Attack Dub)’
It’s out with the sword slices and in with some equally sinister vocal effects, unsettling dub sounds and gurgling bass as Herve toys with TNP’s forthcoming clarion call, which is released on April 19.
Monarchy – ‘The Phoenix Alive (Disco Bloodbath Dalston Dub)’
Last but not least, Monarchy. Despite the fact they have no press shots, which always arouses suspicion (what are they, hunchback elephant men that want to be pop stars?), the London duo have an undeniable knack for cosmic, slightly Gallic, dream-pop. Which makes them ideal targets for disco tykes Disco Bloodbath. This “Dalston dub” adds the sound of Dalston after dark rather than the daytime noises, so instead of East End markets, midday drunks and squealing bendy busses full of teenage terrorists it’s a nine minute synth oddyssey to the sun, and we’d expect nothing less.
Thoughts on all these?
