Deap Vally, ‘Gonnawanna’ – NME Basement Sessions

Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards delivered a stunning intimate live session at NME studios recently, performing cuts from their second album ‘Femejism’ – here’s the energetic ‘Gonnawanna’.

LA rock duo Deap Vally – who comprise of Lindsey Troy (guitar/ lead vocals) and Julie Edwards (drums and vocals) – don’t phone in performances: every time they take to the stage, you can be sure of a fierce, committed and powerful experience. And, true to form, the band displayed the ethos that has served them so well for over five years when they became the latest act to play an NME Basement Session.

Troy and Edwards first burst onto the scene with their explosive 2012 debut single, ‘Gonna Make My Own Money’, which got heads turning through its searing energy and crunchy, foot-tapping riffs.

The pair doubled up on that early promise by then proceeding to smash festivals the world over, with a particularly notable set at Glastonbury in 2013 sticking in the memory. That same year Deap Vally released their acclaimed debut album ‘Sistrionix’, which we praised for its “wicked humour, righteous anger and massive riffs.”

After a three-year gap between albums, Deap Vally returned this year with their second LP, ‘Femejism’, which demonstrated further their penchant for loud and scuzzy rock’n’roll greatness.

The dynamic duo dropped by NME’s basement studios recently to perform the excellent ‘Gonnawanna’, which you can watch above – make sure you turn it up to 11.
